Sorry Doonesbury fans, but there never was a directive from the Bush administration that probibits National Park Service employees from discussing the geologic age of the Grand Canyon. This is just a bit of leftist propaganda originated by a group that calls itself Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility with no evidence or substantiation presented.

If you check the National Park Service web site for the Grand Canyon, you'll see all sorts of scientific data about this scenic wonder--and not a single mention about biblical dates.

Further, if such a directive did exist you would read about it on the front page of the New York Times and not learn about it through some obscure web site or e-mail chain letter or a comic strip.

If you fell for this bit of nonsense, you are either incredibly naive or so full of hate that you can ignore your critical thinking faculties.

There are a lot of problems with this story. My investigation turned up a lot. Don't believe everything you read.

GRC sells books, not the NPS. GRC is a private, non-profit group. They also sell American Indian books with creation myths. The book in question is in the "inspirational" section. Most of PEER's claims are wildly unsubstantiated.

[...] But can one fund critical thinking? What can one do with a scholarship for 'critical' thinking? It doesn't imply an education fund, because as we all know, there's no guarantee of any thinking happening in education. A person could use the money to go to the Grand Canyon, buy up all the books that state the Grand Canyon is the result of the Noah's Arc flood, and tastefully turn such into organic compost, but what would be accomplished? Silliness is like water, and it always flows back into the void when reason passes. [...]
