Aquafina Labels: It’s Tap Water

The label on Aquafina water bottles will soon be changed to spell out that the drink comes from the same source as tap water.

A group called Corporate Accountability International has been pressuring bottled water sellers to curb what it calls misleading marketing practices.

Aquafina, from Pepsi, is the single biggest bottled water brand, and its bottles are now labeled “P.W.S.” The new labels will spell out “public water source.”

Surprised? They’re now after Coca Cola.

Although portability and convenience are reasons many people pay hundreds of times more per ox. for commercially bottled water, the contents are sometimes less healthy and may not taste better. Buying one or several reusable nalgene bottles and filling them forom the tap at home can provide the same portability and convenience at a fraction of the price and reduce waste of petroleum, the energy cost of transporting commercially bottled water and curtail landfill or other disposal costs (most bottles consumed “on the go” aren’t brought home to be recycled but placed in streetside refuse bins).
